Tourism with Integrity
Machu Picchu by World’s Commitment to Protecting Children and Adolescents
ESSNA Code of Conduct Against the Sexual Exploitation of Children in Tourism
The ESNNA Code is a set of regulations, policies, and behavioral standards issued by the Peruvian government to prevent the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents within the tourism sector. This type of exploitation refers to using a minor’s body for sexual, pornographic, or erotic purposes in exchange for money, the promise of payment, or other benefits such as food, clothing, a cellphone, and so on.
This code is regulated under Ministerial Resolution 430-2018-MINCETUR and includes a mandatory Affidavit of Adherence to the Code of Conduct Against the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. Machu Picchu by World has formally signed this commitment as a pledge to uphold the responsibilities and ethical standards necessary to protect the physical integrity of children and adolescents.
Machu Picchu by World supports the future of our country—its children and youth.
In alignment with its internal principles and philosophy of comprehensive development for partners and suppliers, Machu Picchu by World commits to:
Refraining from promoting destinations or programs that openly or covertly facilitate the sexual exploitation of minors.
Never informing visitors about places where minors are commercially exploited for sexual purposes, whether directly or through intermediaries.
Avoiding the transport of tourists to locations—on land or aboard vessels—where sexual exploitation of minors occurs, directly or indirectly.
Preventing the rental of vehicles on high-demand routes to individuals who may use them to abuse or sexually exploit minors.
Ensuring that minors do not enter bars, lodging facilities, hotels, or other tourism-related establishments where they may be at risk of abuse or exploitation.
Taking preventive measures to ensure that no employee or representative of the company provides services that could enable sexual activities with minors.
Establishing internal reporting channels and notifying MINCETUR and other competent authorities whenever any information related to sites linked to the sexual exploitation of minors becomes known.
Developing and sharing a policy that outlines clear steps to prevent and combat all forms of child and adolescent sexual exploitation within the organization and among its service providers.
Providing training to all staff members on how to detect, prevent, and respond to cases of commercial sexual exploitation of minors.
Informing Machu Picchu by World travelers about Peru’s legal penalties for abusing or sexually exploiting minors.
Displaying this Code of Conduct—and any additional commitments to safeguard children and teenagers—in a clearly visible area for all personnel.
In accordance with Law No. 28251, the agency formally warns all visitors that the sexual abuse or exploitation of minors in Peru is a criminal offense and will be prosecuted accordingly.
